It was an afternoon of fun for the kids aged 8 – 13 participating in the inaugural HI-TEC Walkerbay Xtreme Junior Triathlon – an event that aims to introduce young participants to multisport in a safe, fun and non-threatening way.
There were some nervous faces among the young participants, but a comprehensive briefing by the race referee and See en Sand‘s Henk Esterhuizen set the scene for an adventure they won’t easily forget.
Their race kicked off with a 150m ocean swim – a first for most – which they handled like absolute pros. This was followed by a 5km cycle and 2km run along Marine Drive & Westcliff Road.
And regardless of their position in the race or the level of skill displayed during their race, it was incredible to see these youngsters learn more about triathlon and sportsmanship.
